Privacy policy

This describes what Unclanker.me (operated by BoomWow Media) collects, why, and what we do with it. We collect only what the service actually needs to work, and we don’t sell your data to anyone.

The Clanker Ranker

Our free roast tool works differently from the rest of the site. Whatever photo or image you upload there is processed entirely on your own device, in your browser, not on our servers. We never receive it, see it, or store it anywhere, it doesn’t appear anywhere in the “What we collect” list below because there’s nothing of yours to collect. The only thing that ever leaves your device is a result card you choose to download or share yourself.

What we collect

When you use Unclanker.me, we collect:

  • Account info: your name (if given), email, and a securely hashed password. We never store your actual password.
  • Submitted content: the images or text you upload for review, and any notes you add.
  • Project request info: if you use the intake form, your name, email, phone (if given), and project details.
  • Payment confirmation: whether a submission was paid for, and a reference ID from Stripe. We do not receive or store your card number — Stripe handles that directly.
  • Basic technical data: your IP address, used only to apply rate limits that slow down spam and abuse. We don’t build profiles from it.
  • Email list signup: if you sign up for our weekly tips email, just your email address and, for our own curiosity, where on the site you signed up.

What we use it for

To create and secure your account, to let reviewers see and mark up what you submit, to process payment, to email you when your fix prompt is ready or when you request a password reset, and to screen submissions for prohibited content before they’re stored. That’s the full list — we don’t use your data for advertising, and we don’t sell it.

Who else sees it

A few third-party services help run Unclanker.me, and each only sees what it needs to do its job:

  • Stripe — processes payments. They receive what’s needed to charge a card; we never see or store your full card number.
  • Neon — hosts our database, where your account and submission data live.
  • Resend — sends transactional emails (password resets, delivery notices) and, if you’ve signed up for it, the weekly tips email.
  • OpenAI and Sightengine — automatically screen submitted text and images for prohibited content before storage. They receive the submitted content for this check only; we don’t use these services to train any model, and we don’t know of them using screened content for training either, but we don’t control their internal policies — see their own privacy policies for specifics on how they handle content they process.

We don’t share your data with anyone else, and we don’t sell it to data brokers, advertisers, or anyone in between.

How long we keep it

Account and submission data is kept as long as your account is active. If you request account deletion, we delete your submissions, images, and personal info from our active database within a reasonable time, aside from what we’re legally required to keep (for example, payment records for tax purposes).

Your choices

You can request a copy of your data, ask us to correct it, or request deletion at any time by emailing hello@unclanker.me. Featuring your work in our public showcase is always opt-in at submission time, and a reviewer separately has to approve it — nothing you submit becomes public without both of those steps. Signing up for the weekly tips email requires clicking a confirmation link we send you first — nobody gets added just because someone typed in their address — and every email after that includes a one-click unsubscribe link, no login or account needed.

Security

Passwords are hashed, not stored in plain text. Payment happens through Stripe’s secure checkout, not on our own servers. Submitted content is automatically screened before it’s stored, as described in our Terms of Service. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable, standard precautions.

Children

Unclanker.me isn’t intended for anyone under 18, and we don’t knowingly collect data from minors.
